Crimsafe versus Steel Security Doors

The presence of Crimsafe or steel security doors on a home or business premises can be one of the best ways to stop burglars in their tracks. But when it comes to choosing between steel and Crimsafe doors, it’s important to know what each offers and how they differ.

Here’s an overview of the two.

Steel doors

Steel doors consist of a steel screen door with added steel bar work. The doors are made from structural steel and have high quality locks, hinges and finishes. To protect the door from the elements, finishes can be either hot-dip galvanised, zinc-plated or powder-coated.

This combination of features makes the doors exceptionally strong and secure, making them a great solution in a high risk area or for a commercial application such as a factory. They also offer a degree of privacy while still allowing for views and airflow.

When it comes to design factors, it could be easy to think of steel doors as being very industrial in appearance and not really suited for a residential home. Fortunately, that’s not the case. There are many designs on the market, ranging from modern angular and ‘random’ patterned through to ornate and highly decorative. Some even have a wrought-iron look.

Our range at MSD includes more than 200 colours and 50 designs, or the option of a custom security door if you prefer.

Crimsafe doors

Crimsafe doors consist of a sturdy stainless steel mesh screen panel within an aluminium frame. There are several models available, with each one exceeding Australian standards for dynamic impact, corrosion-resistance, and bushfire protection. Crimsafe doors also come with triple-locking technology, providing three points of locking in the door jamb.

While there are a lot of security doors on the market, Crimsafe has some features that are unique to the brand. This includes Tensile-Tuff extra thick mesh, patented screw-clamp technology, and tamper-resistant screws. Crimsafe’s combination of features makes it virtually impossible to remove the screen or to conduct a forced entry into the building.

Custom Crimsafe laser cut doors are also an option. These have an added laser cut steel panel that can be styled according to individual requirements.

Comparing the two

Steel doors are the stronger of the two types, and are an excellent visual deterrent for intruders. They offer a great solution for commercial businesses and residential homes that require maximum security and an added layer of privacy.

The wide range of steel door designs also means that there is something for every style of building. Some of the designs could really add a ‘wow’ factor to a property. And even a heritage home could have steel doors installed that complement the building while offering exceptional security.

Crimsafe doors allow for greater airflow, views and natural light than steel doors and are designed to blend in with the home’s design. They offer less privacy – with the exception of the laser cut doors that have added steel sections.

With a Crimsafe door, you could have your main door open, allowing for cross-breezes in the summer, while keeping out unwanted intruders (and insects!) at the same time.
